The Groenkloof Foundation is honoured to champion the cause of the elderly. Built on Christian love and values with an ethos of “live and let live”, the trust serves as a welfare organisation – first within the Groenkloof Retirement Estates along the Garden Route, and eventually across communities throughout Southern Africa.
The Growing Need for Elderly Care
South Africa’s growing older population creates an increasing need for accessible care and community support. Statistics South Africa estimates that 6.79 million people—10.7% of the population—were aged 60 or older in 2026.[1] Research in Cape Town has highlighted gaps in older people’s access to responsive, person-centred healthcare and the valuable role of community support services.[2] Through its five focus areas, the Groenkloof Foundation seeks to help address these needs and promote the dignity and holistic wellbeing of older persons.
